Wrapping our First Week

Woo hoo, first week of school is checked off!!! Yes, let’s celebrate!!

On the whole, I would say it was a pretty decent start!  We learned how to use our checklists.  I am hoping the kids assignment checklists will help them ‘own’ their school work a bit more.  The older two loved them and I can tell they take after mom… checking stuff off is so much fun!!  I am still having them read their Zoology book together and out loud.  This way the weak reader of the group can listen in and I can focus on my pre-schooler.

The kids LOVED their Ancient Egypt books.  I personally love the inter-library loan system 😉  I only had to purchase 2 of the nearly 10 books we are reading these first couple weeks of Tapestry of Grace.  The kids all had something to tell Daddy at the supper table and they enjoyed the discussion.

The pre-schooler surprised me in big ways this week.  After my #3 struggled so with just holding a pencil and sitting still for anything, my #4 knocked my socks off with his fine motor skills.  He even traces his name beautifully.  He wants to write his name at the top of every page.  WOW!!  This #4 also has some obvious speech issues and his dedication to repeating letter sounds for me and words that are unclear astound me as well.  Being my ‘challenging’ child I really did think that starting him at the table this year was a mistake.  I have him there because he just wants to be doing what everyone else is doing.  He made his Mama proud, though.  God was gracious to mama in this area!!!

Every school year begins with a music video.  The kids and I put these things together so we can start our school year with fun.    If you would like to see what we put together last here, click here.

I hope you all have a great weekend. We are preparing for Irene to hit the MD coast late Saturday night. OUr landlord said the last hurricane that hit MD left this area without power for 5 days.  So I hit the grocery for food I can make over the grill and LOTS of PBJ/cold cut sandwiches 😉  No matter what happens, God is good and a shelter in every storm.

One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.  For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.  Psalm 27:4-5

  1. Oh, I love the video! How fun! (I don’t think I could get my kids to do something like that, especially the 7th grader! LOL)

Irene is supposed to hit us in Maine early Sunday morning. We’ve already started preparing, but it may be only a tropical storm when it reaches us. Either way, it’s predicted path is directly over us. We’ll be ready!

Stopping by from Kris’s Weekly Wrap-up!

  2. Praying for your safety and provisions!!

  3. Glad you had a good week! I hope you stay safe.

  4. What a great first week. Hope you make it through Irene unscathed.
